The information on petadoptnow.com (the “Site”) is provided for general informational and educational purposes only. By using the Site, you acknowledge and agree to this Disclaimer. This Disclaimer should be read together with our Terms of Service.

1. We are not a shelter, rescue, or veterinary provider

PetAdoptNow is an independent informational and directory service. We do not own, operate, run, or staff any animal shelter, rescue organization, foster home, or veterinary clinic. We do not take physical custody of animals. We do not process adoption applications, collect adoption fees, or coordinate transfers between adopters and shelters. If an animal listed on the Site interests you, you must contact the source shelter or rescue to begin their adoption process.

2. Pet listings are not real-time

Pet listings on the Site are aggregated from third-party shelter-management platforms (currently 24petconnect, ShelterLuv, and RescueGroups.org) and refreshed on a daily cycle. A pet’s availability, photos, behavior notes, and status (available, on hold, adoption pending, adopted) can change between our updates. Travel times, lost pets, and last- minute changes at the shelter are common in adoption work.

Always contact the source shelter directly to confirm a pet is still available, to ask about temperament and history, and to understand their adoption process before you travel. We accept no responsibility for visits or applications based on listings that are out of date.

3. AI-assisted descriptions

Each pet detail page includes a short description that is produced with AI assistance from the factual information we receive about the pet (such as breed, age, gender, and source- shelter location). The drafting process is constrained so the output stays grounded in those facts rather than inventing specific behavioral claims about the individual animal. Even so, an AI-assisted description is not a substitute for meeting the animal in person, consulting the shelter’s own notes, or seeking professional behavioral evaluation. Treat the description as a starting point — not as guaranteed truth about a specific animal’s temperament or health.

4. No veterinary, behavioral, legal, or financial advice

Pet-care articles, breed guides, and other editorial content on the Site are written for general education. They are not, and are not intended to be, a substitute for:

  • Veterinary care. For any concern about an animal’s health, behavior, nutrition, or vaccinations, consult a licensed veterinarian who has examined the animal in person.
  • Professional training or behavioral advice. For serious behavioral issues, consult a credentialed certified animal behaviorist or veterinary behaviorist.
  • Legal advice. Animal-control laws, leash laws, breed-specific legislation, landlord and HOA rules, travel restrictions, and pet-insurance regulations vary by jurisdiction. Consult a qualified attorney for advice specific to your situation.
  • Financial advice. Estimates of adoption fees, vet costs, and lifetime pet costs are illustrative and may not reflect prices in your area or for your specific animal.

5. Breed and name reference information

Breed pages summarize widely-recognized characteristics of dog breeds (referenced against the American Kennel Club’s breed standard) and cat breeds (referenced against The International Cat Association). Individual animals vary substantially; mixed-breed and many shelter animals do not fit any single breed profile. Name pages provide cultural and etymological information for choosing pet names and are for entertainment and reference only.

6. Third-party links

The Site contains links to third-party websites — shelter websites, mapping services, advertising landing pages, and others. We do not endorse, control, or assume responsibility for the content, accuracy, privacy practices, or business practices of those sites. Following an external link is at your own risk and is subject to that site’s terms and privacy policies.

7. Photographs and copyright

Pet photographs are sourced from the originating shelters and rescues and are credited to the source organization on each detail page. We do not claim ownership of these photographs. If you are a shelter, rescue, or photographer and believe a photo has been used in a way that violates your rights, please see our DMCA Policy.

8. Advertising

The Site is supported by display advertising. We do not endorse the products, services, or claims of advertisers. See our Advertising Disclosure for additional detail.

9. No warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site and all content on it are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, currency, or uninterrupted availability.

10. Reporting issues

We want the Site to be accurate. If you find an error in a listing or article, or if you believe a pet has been adopted but still appears as available, please contact [email protected] and we will review and correct as appropriate.
